Poker Study

The best thing about learning to play poker is that, unlike most other games, the seasoned players are thrilled to have a newbie around.

Albatross has been attending a weekly poker group video since the first quarantine started. I played here and there, and read a wonderful new book: The Biggest Bluff by Maria Konnikova, 2020. Since it got too cold to go camping, I’ve been playing more often. I’ve really come to appreciate it as a game.

It’s a perfectly balanced game, which appeals to my Libran nature. It balances luck and skill, psychology and statistics, hiding and revealing. We play the most popular variant of the game, Texas Hold ‘Em.

It’s also a wonderful game for spreadsheet enthusiasts. Thanks to our host we have an exquisite one, which calculates odds, tracks games, and charts trends.
