I have been making spreadsheets to catalog artwork since 2010, and each one had a slightly different set of columns. For Rookery, we decided on a minimal index: Title, Artist, Year Created, Year Acquired. These are the criteria we found most helpful for sorting artworks.

We use square thumbnails here, because they make the list more clean. Right now the thumbnails are generated automatically, but we hope to build a thumbnail selector soon.

There have been requests for a Medium category here, and this is a complicated aspect of art archiving. Sometimes the medium is “painting” and sometimes it’s “hand-ground oil paint on Belgian linen” and it is extremely difficult to make a meaningful sorting of these parameters. In Rookery, all details about the medium go in the Observation section.

In the Rooms index, things are organized slightly differently. This view is meant to give a peek into each room, so we went with full-framed image thumbnails. This is sorted by Last Updated, so your most recently edited rooms appear first.
