2RO082 - Archival Software Landscape

Given the number of options on the market, digital art collection management is clearly a need. Each option serves some combination of art professionals — creators, collectors, and dealers — but none seem to serve the at-home amateur. This makes sense: software like this is expensive and complicated to build, and really requires a professional archivist. As much as an at-home amateur might like a digital archive of their collection, they’re not likely to spend the money or time this kind of software requires.

Rookery is built to accommodate the at-home user. It does not require perfect photos of the artwork nor complex data entry of archival properties. The more we can do to accommodate amateurs, the more unique our product will be.

Like Rookery, these products are primarily on web and desktop. Our users report being more comfortable on a phone or tablet. Developing a connected mobile application to streamline and gamify data entry, even a very simple one, can really help Rookery stand out in the field.
